I didn't like OoT when it came out, and for years I kept hearing about how it was the best (Zelda) game ever, etc.

So I got it on the Virtual Console when it became available.

Still don't like it. Don't understand the hype.

I got Zelda OoT and just get bored by the time I got to the adult part. It's not all that fun to me.

I never had much fun with the 3-d zeldas. They all have a nice presentation and aesthetic that gives you that majestic feeling the 2-d games simply couldn't because of the hardware they're on, however the independence you have at discovering nooks and crannies is largely gone. Also I just can't be bothered with tutorials

Part of the hook of OoT was HEY LOOK 3D ZELDA! And because of that, it became BEST ZELDA EVER. However, pretty much everyone I know has faded on that and they give that title to LttP, Link's Awakening or the first Zelda. (Btw the 3DS Zelda Link Between Worlds was very good).

I played it when it came out and enjoyed it. The dungeons had a Zelda LttP vibe to them in complexity. The lock on system for combat was actually really nice, especially compared to some dogshit titles on the PS1. The world was definitely claustrophobic though.

... btw, we all liked LttP, right? I'd hate to have to jettison some of you into space.

My real problem is the 64 began the obnoxious trend of Mario and Zelda not shutting the fuck up.

I like parts of LttP but it's not my favorite Zelda.

That would go to Zelda 2. B) Because I'm the antichrist.

Couldn't agree more with this.

Gonna be honest... never was the biggest Zelda fan, even as a kid.

LttP, AoL, and Link's Awakening are my favorites. Everything else... meh.

LttP is definitely the best, though. I still enjoy it to this day. Zelda 2 holds up well for me probably more based on nostalgia than anything; lots of good memories playing it with my cousins growing up.

Link's Awakening is very... different. Never beaten it, but I like it. lol

I always thought this looked like Link's Awakening, btw.

More accurately, it looks like Link's Awakening took a lot from that game as far as aesthetic. Or maybe it's just me.

Wow, never heard of that. Nintendo totally bought it and grafted on Link.

That has long been my assumption. Even the plot is the same... lol.

By today's standards, even everyone's favorite FF7 looks like ass.

Which is probably why they're remaking it all-shiny like for the PS4.

I think the biggest reason I wasn't a fan is that it gave the snub to all the 3rd party franchise games - most of them went to the PlayStation, so that's where I went too.

I picked up a couple of N64 games for the Wii Virtual Console - Sin and Punishment and Ogre Battle 64 - they're fine, but I don't feel compelled to get anything else.
My old VG sites: Nintendo-A-GoGo, Game Frenzy, Nintendo's University of Classic Gaming
My current site: Jason Vincion - music and writing, though not much yet.

The Nintendo 64 is only good to have around for random parties. There were a lot of multi player friendly games on the damn thing, which with four controllers and drinks / drugs, every one could have fun back when we were all poor students paying off loans and books.

Ocarina of Time is fine, but Majora's Mask is a rom hack pile of shit. I think Majora's Mask should be grouped in with the CD-i games.
