I may be the minority but that never bugged me. I know a lot of people hate it though.

W/R/T Shenmue, the most common criticism I see about it is that it plays very slowly, but to me that's the point. I can't think of any game released to that point that was purposely slow and deliberate about almost everything. If you get through that barrier though it's really special and there's just nothing else like it. By the end it felt like I lived in that town and wanted to keep in touch with the characters as incredibly corny and lame as that sounds

Off the top of my head...

Kingdom Hearts: FUCK everything about this game. Except building your spaceship thing, but fuck everything else. And no, I'm not going to play the sequels or spinoffs. I have serious lost friends because they could not handle the fact that I hate Kingdom Hearts. Good riddance, because I don't want to be friends with crazy weebs that are going to judge me on a fucking video game about Mickey Mouse and Cloud Strife being best buddies and wearing hoodies with like 38 zippers.

Donkey Kong Country series: It's not the worst series, but it's not great. I'd rather play Bubsy. I'm not kidding. I'd rather play Bubsy than any DKC game.

Any 3D Zelda game: I don't agree with the rest of gaming society when they say Ocarina was a masterpiece. The controls suck, I don't like the game design, the art is ugly, and it annoys me to actually play any of them. I really hope Breath Of The Wild is going to make me seriously change my mind about this entry.

Crash Bandicoot: It plays like a 3D DKC with tunnel vision. I can't believe Sony is wasting their time with a reboot or whatever. Let it die, guys, you don't need a mascot. Especially one that looks like Sonic with a crack addiction.

Pokemon series: Baby's first JRPG. Though I'll admit, Pokemon Go is fun in short bursts if you're out somewhere, but even that has its limits, nor is it even remotely close to it being my favorite mobile game. Also, this franchise pretty much cemented that anime, for the most part, was a mistake... because that's when the weaboos started popping up and annoying the shit out of everyone else.

Final Fantasy XIII: Yes, there people that like this game and the two direct sequels. Don't ask me why, because I'm sure as hell am not one of them.

Minecraft: To be fair, I get why folks, especially children, like this game. It's essentially gamified Legos. The creepy art style turned me off, and I hate the first person perspective. Plus, well, there are clones that are much better. But hey, congratulations to Notch for finding an easy path to becoming a bajillionaire and redefining the sandbox genre.

Halo: Shit.

Destiny: Shit with an MMO polish. I literally, and I do mean literally, fell asleep playing this game, controller in hand. Pretty sure Peter Dinklage had that problem as well in the recording booth.

Magna Carta: I don't honestly know if people really like this game, but when you can easily die in the tutorial before you can get to a save point, then yeah, your game has problems.

Mortal Kombats 3 through whatever came before 9/Reboot: The first two were okay. Not as good as Street Fighter II+, but okay. A bit overhyped, but they had really good marketing so... I can't hold that against them. It got really stupid and boring after MK2. Thankfully, the reboot fixed a lot of the damage.

Viewtiful Joe: Actually, the only game Kamiya worked on that I really liked was Okami, and even then... it's not a masterpiece. VJ was gimmicky and dull to really play. Stick with being a xenophobic asshole on Twitter, Kamiya, that seems to be your calling. (He was right about Mighty No. 9 though...)

Depression Quest: Let's ignore Zoe Quinn and her victim complex. This was just another average Twine-developed game. ANYONE could have made this game, and maybe have done it better and more profound.

Mother/Earthbound Beginings: I don't really have that much hate for this game, it's just... not that much different from any other JRPG at the time, nor has it aged well. Mother 2/Earthbound, despite it's faults and post-era hype, at least tried new things not common in a JRPG. Honestly, it's not really any better than the original Final Fantasy, which isn't exactly a timeless classic either.

IMPORT BONUS! Pac-Land on Famicom: I always wondered why Tengen didn't bother bringing this over in the NES era, as the original arcade game is still one of my favorites. Then I played the Famicom port and, oh lord, they were right to pass this. It's barely even the same game. I understand that the NES isn't going to grant players arcade perfect ports of most games, but I at least expect to move my character left and right with the D-Pad, not the fucking A and B buttons. Also, the physics are shit compared to the original. Thank you for not ruining my fond memories of this game, Tengen.

That's the thing, it's really not like a standard "video game." It's like an experience in the same way people go to art museums and look at the same painting for long stretches of time over and over. By the end you've alienated 80% of your audience but that remaining 20 love it. Did you play it with a guide?

I recently played the first hour or so of Shenmue 2 and dislike it because one, your a foreigner and these are all new people and two, they streamlined the gameplay and allow you to fast forward to appointments and stuff lol. I'm a nut though.

Reverend crush: hell yes on crash bandicoot. Terrible game that got by on a mascot platformer that was well past it's expiration date. Marketing sells I guess

Left 4 Dead / Left 4 Dead 2- The campaign was fun once for each of them. Playing them online against other people with my friends made me miserable.

The Witcher - Clunky controls to the point of unplayable. The second and third entries in this series were much better.

League of Legends- Cancer the video game. I'd actually probably really enjoy it with a good crew to play with.

I played the shit out of L4D2 online until a few years ago- as much as I loved it I will verify that it is a monstrous rape pit that can quickly get un-fun.

No, you just get mad and start yelling at each other, or get really tilted because you get curbstomped.

No, I played it when it was new. I don't use guides unless I get hopelessly stuck. Shenmue just made me hopelessly bored.

There are things in Shenmue that we're not just new for the time but are things you can't do in any other video game.

Maybe there's a good reason for that.
