I also have an EPROM programmer and can burn anything you need. I got a buddy IRL who is into pinball machines, their scene is apparently just as cutthroat as NA or any other collector scene. He's always dealing with people trying to sell bogus parts or low/highballing with sales. |

^ I got it and just sent the reply. Thanks again. Also that last line really sums everything up nicely for all the collecting scenes out there.
I'll keep that in mind for next time. Brat edged you out here, but I still appreciate it regardless. Based on my limited exposure to the pinball scene I've seen just a preview of how psycho these guys get so that's not a surprise at all. Hell, even the underhanded tactics of rival businesses feuding and it carrying over to the internet with fake negative reviews on Yelp and claims of using faulty/used parts in repairs is astonishing. Even shitty repro parts have been made in batches and either the person bails after collecting the money without delivering the part or the part itself has such a ridiculous markup that it becomes pointless to buy it reproduced considering it's lower quality than a used original. I guess it goes with the territory considering the price of pins these days is like a gold rush. |

BLOGPOST 3: STILL BLOGGIN' So here's whats been going on since I last posted here: -I've been doing a ton of researching and reading on diagnosing issues regarding PCBs/electronics in general. I now have a basic grasp of how to use a logic probe and oscilloscope when it comes to checking circuits to make sure everything is running as intended. Honestly this is something I've been meaning to do for the past 13 or so years so I'm glad this hobby has finally forced me into learning this stuff. -I also dug out a few bench top power supplies and a 60mhz oscilloscope a friends dad gave me nearly 10 years ago. They all seem to be working well so I've made a test bench of sorts to start diagnosing and figuring all this shit out. I've also used this opportunity to buy some basic tools I should have as well so I must give a big thank you Radioshack for going kaput. My wallet is grateful for the clearance sales the several stores nearby me have been holding. -Due to this new found interest in repair, I went ahead and grabbed a cheap 'untested' (broken) Centipede, and Ms. Pacman board off eBay to help cut my teeth on. I chose these two games because of their extreme popularity. This is important because if I needed to look up repair logs online, there's probably a fix for every single problem these boards could potentially have. It's a nice safety net to have. -Talked to Bratwurst and ordered some EPROMs from China to have him burn Tapper onto. Those arrived a few days ago and were sent off to him along with the roms for Centipede, Ms. Pacman, and the spare Asteroids Deluxe board so they can be 'refreshed.' OF COURSE USPS NOW SHOWS A DELAY ON THE PACKAGE. ASDJAGF. -eBay's suggestions worked for once and led me to a Ms. Pacman 3 miles from me on eBay and was ecstatic. A friend threw down $200 as well so this was for sure going to happen. Of course, a NEW ACCOUNT mysteriously appears in the nth hour jacking the price up $120 to a grand total of $470... which is nearly $100 more than the average Ms. Pac goes for on eBay. Yeah... ok. -I've decided to convert my basement from a storage hellhole into an arcade. By the end of summer it should be done so I'm going to try and hold off on getting anymore games unless they're absolute steals. Unfortunately the guy I got Tapper and Asteroids Deluxe from is thinking of selling his Tempest so that might be my first absolute steal I can't pass up. We'll see... -The jrok WSF board I have which does 100% accurate emulation of early Williams titles (Defender, Robotron, Sinistar, Joust, Food Fight, Bubbles, Blaster, and Stargate) had a short and now the service switch wont power off. This means I can't play Joust, Food Fight, and Bubbles due to the games thinking I'm nonstop cycling the service switch nor can I change any settings. Joy. I just got done sending a PM to the creator of this board on KLOV's forums so hopefully he can repair it at a reasonable price. -My girlfriend wants to go to the east coast this summer in the Philly/South Jersey area. If this happens, would any of you bastards like to meet up and check out an arcade or two? I figured this was the appropriate place to float the idea before any definite plans were made on my end. THAT ABOUT COVERS IT FOR NOW. THANKS FOR READING |

omg yus By the way if you would like to take care of that burn in I have a CRT refresh kit (it just shortens the lifespan of the tube by blasting the interior with high voltages tee hee) |

Wait refresh kit? I know about CRT rejuvenators, but I've never heard of a refresh kit. Tell me more. Also would you or anyone else also happen to have an HV Probe? I need to rebuild Asteroids' monitor and don't want to cause any issues by discharging it with a screwdriver to the frame. Vector monitors reaaaaaally don't appreciate this technique. I'd gladly pay for postage just to "borrow" one from some kind soul out there. |

Sorry, that's what I meant, a rejuvenator. And it's not really a fix for burn-in- you'd get the same result displaying a solid bright color for long stretches of time, basically bleaching the surrounding phosphors that aren't burned in. And I'm fairly sure my dad still has a high voltage probe, but I would have to ask if he was fine loaning it out. I will let you know soon. |

Oh yeah of course it wont fix the burn in, but my colors are a bit funky anyway so this would be welcomed if possible. There's a yellow wash over the screen that I can't adjust out and I know this is exactly what rejuvenators were made for. It's all good about the HV probe and much appreciated. Thanks for the continued help and looking out! I just can't justify spending the $80+ for use on bulletproofing one game so I gotta borrow one from somewhere. I'll also try asking an electrical engineer my girlfriends friends with to make life easier. |

Unfortunately there seems to be some minor video issues, but the game does work about 90% of the time as intended. Thankfully you can temporarily 'fix' it the same way you would with an NES game by cleaning the board's edge connector. The issues are very straightforward so when I get some free time next month I should be able to fix/bulletproof it fairly easily. He also threw in another board that plays blind for another $50 which was an insane deal on its own. Couldn't say no to a price like that. I agree, the key chain was my favorite part. Apparently every game he owns has a key chain like this. Got a huge kick out of that for sure. Oh and since it was the same guy who got into console collecting, here's my update: He bought an Everdrive for every console so he wouldn't have to deal with the horrible prices anymore. The variants and foam blocks got to him. Definitely can't blame him there. |

Well the arcade I frequented closed down a couple of days ago. Now I'm completely shit outta luck for my September Robotron WR run. In other news... Danihel helped me get Tempest into my house. The game worked great for 3 power ons... then the monitor halfway went out, but was able to be Fonzie'd to a full screen... then it completely zapped out. I knew it was simply a transistor that went out or got loose, but I'll save the full story for when I have time to fully write out a thousand word report that I think only Bratwurst would get a kick out of. I'll just leave it as IT STILL DOESN'T FUCKING WORK for the time being. Also, thanks again Brat for letting me use the HV probe and CRT rejuvenator. The probes come in handy so far and hopefully I can get to the monitor in Tapper soon... |
