^ I didn't reply sooner, but yeah I think I may hold onto it a few weeks longer if you wouldn't mind.

Related to this topic, I came upon this pdf which has the actual production numbers for Atari games.

http://www.atarigames.com/atarinumbers90s.pdf

The fact that 6500 cabinets of Pit Fighter were made is incredible. I wonder if the 5500 that didn't sell were used for a bonfire.

Are the second numbers really the actual sales? Jesus, they definitely didn't sell much.

Nah, I was being a smart ass and picking a random number of cabs that didn't sell cause Pit Fighter is an abortion of a game. The slashes are for different regions which in this case means they sold 1000 in Ireland.

Pit Fighter on the SNES was the worst game I ever played.

If it was 1990, the digitized actor graphics were enough to sell the game no matter how bad it was. Hell they put out a SNES -AND- a Genesis port simultaneously, plus for a bunch of other systems. It made someone money.

I was going to point out how by comparison to MK and the alleged 24,000 units that were sold of it that Pit Fighter wasn't too big of a hit... but then I remembered how 1990 was for arcade games. It definitely was a huge success for Atari even if the game was a pile. A more appropriate comparison for MK would be Guardians of the 'Hood which was released around the same time and suffered from being considered a cheap knockoff.

So, PRG roms need to be redone? Because the graphics all seem to be intact.

So, PRG roms need to be redone? Because the graphics all seem to be intact.

Exactly what I'm thinking. The fact there is working video and snippets of normal Pacman sound/jingles means everything appears to be functioning properly. Something is making the watchdog bark like a motherfucker with extremely garbled graphics (Ms. Pac boots to numbers and letters sequentially I think) so it's likely a few damaged roms or maybe the Z80. Considering the Centipede board I got from this seller had those rotted beyond repair roms I sent you, I'm guessing refreshing or replacing them is a great place to start here

This arrived in the mail from Australia. A repro WG6100 deflection board for my Tempest monitor because I'm brute force fixing this thing if it kills me. This board adds new enhancements to fine tune the image and fixes nearly every issue the original had.

I'm fixing this thing whether it wants to work or not.

Related: I recently saw an interview with one of the Tempest programmers where they said they had issues with the hardware particularly the monitors from day one. He then told a story about the monitor running for a couple of hours and resistors just falling out due to heat as one of the many examples of issues they faced while making the game. Nicely done Wells Gardner. At least this isn't a Sega vector game where the monitor literally catches on fire at will and every piece of hardware in it was poorly designed from the boards down to the power supply.

Since the forum is bustling, why not update my blog posts?

This is coming along nicely. Just waiting for a few more parts in the mail and hopefully I'll have Tempest up and running for Christmas.

I had forgotten about this. On second inspection, that last transistor looks like it's a little crooked mounted to the heatsink?
