The left joycon has shit wireless because its antenna is embedded in the circuit board as a trace and it's partially obscured by the metal housing of the stick assembly. Someone already soldered in a short length of copper wire to extend it and fixed the issue.

Basically, Nintendo is being cheap as fuck.

So, uh, Zelda is really fucking good. Miles ahead of OoT or anything after. The game actually truly feels like a 3D Zelda 1.

Crush, maybe consider a refurb/used/new WiiU? At least you have a library of games to pick from after you're done with Zelda. I know for me, I'm probably going to let a friend borrow the system and game, whenever the Mrs is done with it too, because it's just going to sit there until Super Mario 512 comes out. At least with the WiiU, you get some selection to choose from to keep using it.

Jesus fuck, you guys are making me want to get a Switch real bad. This is sounding a lot like the Zelda game I've always dreamed of, but never existed so I must get my hands on it. This would also be the first new console I've bought since the Gamecube and depending on how the next year of releases go, I might do it... pending the inevitable price drop of course. I've already got my soldering iron and copper wire waiting on standby.

I've heard that there may be a recall on the left joycon. Doesn't matter, I can't get one until late April at the very soonest. And, well, I think this Shin Megaten game is going to either be SMT5, or some kind of new reboot. It looks like Nocturne.

I put SMT proper on a very high tier. I don't give a shit about Mario compared to that. So yeah, I have more reasons than Zelda for a Switch.

There should be a recall - the issue is really bad. I lay on my living room couch and play, 10 feet from the system, and if I lower the controller so the arm of the couch gets in the way, it gets wonky. Completely unacceptable.

Time to play Zelda hype man - spoiler free.

The world is huge. The starting area is basically as big as the overworld in OoT and there are something like 12 more areas just as big.

You go anywhere. Literally. Climb, swim, glide. The only boundaries are the ones on the outskirts of the map where there is no game. Once you leave the starting area, you can go literally anywhere assuming you can survive it. It's like Zelda 1 in that regard. You go immediately to Level 9's location, but the centaurs will fuck you up - and they will in this game too. Weather and temperature also have a real effect - as you will literally freeze to death in the snow without some sort of protection.

It's actually challenging. In Brat and I's circle of friends, we call the game Legend of Zelda Game Over Continue. There is a serious sense of danger at nearly all times. Whereas before, you could just roll in and take care of business, now you are probably going to get one shotted if you do and if you're not careful about it.

Lots to do. There are shrines which act as essentially power ups when completed and so far, I have found 45 of them. Side quests, a small handful of collectibles (reasonable amount), cooking, crafting, RIDING ON BEARS.

I have 25 hours into it and I feel like I've barely scratched the surface. It's nearly impossible to say that it's worth $400 (no game is), but man, it's as close as you'll get.

I have watched storm cloud formations in the distance bloom with lightning and shroud everything underneath with rain, while I'm doing my own thing in relatively sedate sunshine.

A sunrise from the shoreline compelled me to stop and stare at it.

Enemy and animal behavior is surprisingly varied, bokoblins will kick bombs away, lizalfos will catch boomerangs you throw at them then whip you with their tongue. Wolves will converge on you and attack until you take one out, the rest then run away. Some horses fight you more than others when you ride them. It consistently paints a living world, that's for sure.

I find I /really/ prefer one handed weapons and shields, but for some reason two handed weapons are much more common and they tend to be ungainly, forcing you to change how you mete out combat (sometimes even making you reluctant to engage, if say, you've got a half dozen bokoblins and a moblin bearing down on you.) There's no immediate reward for killing everything and if anything, unnecessary fighting will just break your weapons sooner.

After a week of playing, I want to say this is bar none the best Legend of Zelda ever. Mind you it's not perfect and I'm sure after some time things will become more mundane but it blows away the previous formula that Nintendo's been wringing out of the Ocarina of Time washcloth since 1998.

Two handers aren't that bad for that kind of situation. Assuming you time the wind up of the swing properly, you can hit most of those enemies in one shot and the force of the weapon will toss them away like rag dolls.

One time, a moblin knocked me down a hill. I thought to myself "Ok asshole, I'm going to climb back up, take your club and beat you to death with it".

And that's exactly what I did.

First, left joycon issues: I have tried making my line of sight blocked. I played at varying distances from the console. I covered the controllers completely with pillows and blankets. I just haven't seen a single syncing issue with my controllers. The only weird thing I've had is that my left joycon keeps draining battery MUCH faster than the right. Like in one day of playing, my left one is just about dead, whereas my right one has 30-50% still left. I haven't heard anyone else online talk about that kind of an issue.

Someone did mention to me that they had the same issue. You are not the only one fwiw.

Miyamoto said often in interviews that you can go directly to the final boss and beat the game right from the start. I honestly don't see how that's possible without gathering tools and getting gear. I can't wait to see a Let's Play video of someone doing it in the future (after I beat it first), because it would be amazing to see. Out of boredom one time, I said "fuck it" and tried to bust ass to Hyrule Castle. I got on my horse and just bolted past a sea of one-shot-kill lasers and I actually touched foot on the castle. I made it two steps before a Guardian killed my ass without warning. And this is with a week's worth of gathering tools, weapons, and abilities. I don't see how a brand-new, freshly-awoken Link can do it. How would he get off the plateau without a paraglider, even?

You forget, this is the Internet, where speed running is big business. So whoever has the first sub 15 minute clear time on a Youtube video will rake in the subs, views and ad dollars. Someone will do it by using MAX AUTISM, aka attempting it 4 billion times until they train themselves to do it perfectly. They simply won't get hit, ever, the entire time. And with this game, that's how they'll have to do it with a fresh out of the box Link. Bratwurst told me a week ago (you know, game has been out for 2 days) that someone had done it in 90 minutes. 90. Minutes.

My biggest gripe with the world is how shitty the weather seems to be ALL THE TIME. Holy fuck does Hyrule have some shitty weather. When it rains, you can't climb worth shit or else you lose your grip and slide off. And it happens like every 15 minutes it feels like. Whenever I am in an exploring mood and want to climb a mountain, GUESS WHAT IT'S RAINING NOW SUDDENLY LOL. So then I either have to fast travel somewhere else, build a fire and wait, or literally just stand there with my thumb up my ass waiting for it to pass. It isn't even adding a challenge, it's just annoying, because I can climb anywhere just fine after the rain is done. There better be some ability or equipment somewhere that makes climbing easier in the rain, or else I'm going to be continually pissed off about this. It seems like a major aspect of the game is the roaming, climbing, discovering, and adventuring, but when it's raining, fuck you. You can't climb. You also can't see far with your scope because the distance becomes hazy. I dunno if there is a bigger picture I am missing here, but god damn the developers didn't need to make it rain THIS much. I will admit when you are in the middle of a lightning storm, it's cool and that challenge actually makes sense and is fun to work with.

I can abide by this feeling but the weather system is worth having in light of dealing with the rain issues. Like the lightning storm you mentioned... pretty awesome. Climbing does suck in the rain, but the rest of the game is difficult most of the time, why not make climbing be that way too? :P Once you get more stamina, it makes it more manageable and there is climbing gear to be found too.
