So in the interest of sparking some discussion here... what's everyone playing? Right now I'm playing (until Persona 5 comes out in a week ZOMG)... Secret of Evermore - I remember slogging through this as a kid and though I've come back to it a few times as an adult I never manage to get past the second "world" of the game. It's not that it's a bad game or anything... but the labyrinthine dungeon layouts kinda get to me after awhile quicker than they do in other games, for some reason. I do love the alchemy system, and think the game greatly improved on a lot of things that Secret of Mana didn't quite do correctly. I was actually listening to the OST on Youtube while playing some poker earlier today and while some of the ambient stuff is weird on its own, the music is absolutely stellar. I doubt I'll finish this beore P5 hits, but it's been a fun diversion. Final Fantasy 3/6 - Another game I beat as a kid that I have spent time with as an adult and not beaten again... and I've had this on the Virtual Console since it was released! I just got the airship back in the second half of the game and I'm trying to steamroll through to get this one completed before P5 hits. Even though it's rough around the edges and rife with bugs/glitches, this is still a masterpiece. The Elder Scrolls Legends - Free collectible card game... think Hearthstone, MTG, etc. This one is super friendly to those of us who don't like to spend money on virtual cards (yay!), and I'm having a lot of fun with it. It has interesting mechanics like drawing cards after you take damage at certain intervals which can be used to interrupt your opponent's turn, two separate "lanes" with different properties that you can place creatures in (with rare exception, you must stay within your lane when attacking), and combining two of five attributes to make the class you want. Not for everyone, but I'm loving it so far. Other than that I've been doing play money stuff on PokerStars when I have a few hours to kill. I miss being able to legally play for real money online, even though I usually lost. ![]() Whee! |

Good topic. Let's see... Robotron 2084: Practicing for this still. I've been playing on max difficulty and have changed my playing style enough to where I think I can make a serious attempt and maybe even the marathon world record. We'll see how this goes. Bully: Recently got into this one and am really enjoying it. The attention to detail and all the shit you can do really makes up for the lack of size and exploration you get in the GTA games. If you're a fan of that series then this game is definitely worth checking out. Xybots: Played this recently for the first time and am enjoying the hell out of it. Super fun coop game and whenever someone comes by we've been jamming on this. The gameplay is you're running around a maze reminiscent of Wolf 3D (including an automap) from a 3rd person perspective where you can move all around the screen while trying to make your way to the exit. Definitely an innovative title considering it came out in 1987 yet it feels like a lot of early DOS fps games that would come out 5+ years later. I admittedly haven't had a whole lot of free time lately, but these are the games I've been enjoying when I get the chance these days. |

I still need to play Secret of Evermore. I only popped the cart in to test and that was it. I don't see why it wouldn't be a good time even though it always has played second fiddle to SoM. My wife is playing FF3/FF6j too, on our Vita (lol) through their PSN/PS1 thing. Someone needs to explain to me how a digital download of a 30 meg game has load times. I would assume that Sony/SE were lazy. I want to replay it too, probably over the summer. strx, holy shit, keep us posted on that record. Promise us, PROMISE US, you'll stream in clawx2000 for color commentary. I got Bully when it was released and I just couldn't get into it. I *think* I still have it, not 100% sure. I know we got the LE with the dodgeball though (lol). As far as what I've played recently: Legend of Zelda Breath of the Game Over Continue: Stunningly great Zelda game. The only flaw is there is tons to do, but... not. This will make sense when you play it. And if you have the means to play it, whether buying a system or already having it, please do. You will enjoy. I put 75 hours into it in just over 2 weeks and that is insane considering I have 2 kids. Princess Tomato and the Salad Kingdom: I replayed this shotgun before Zelda arrived. Fun game, if a little easy. I was happy to go through this blind with no help, except, because I was finishing it the night before Zelda arrived, and it was 1:30am at that point, I had to look up the last maze map. Definitely worth a playthrough every 15-20 years, lol. Eggs Inc: A worthless iOS/Android clicker game that I hate to say I sink time into. At least it's downtime at work and nearly nothing else. Speaking of worthless mobile games, I bought Super Mario Run on Android. Whoop. And then there is what's to come. So in less than 2 weeks, I will have BACHELOR MODE. That means my wife and kids will be going to Michigan to visit my in-laws and I will be by myself. I have had this gift on 2 separate times (where I played through MGS4 on one, and Lolo 1-3 on the other) but this time I am taking the week off from work. So, here's what I have teed up for the week: Wonderboy III: Dragon's Trap (SMS) Stubbs the Zombie (Xbox) Pikmin 3 (WiiU) The Red Star (PS2) Conker's Bad Fur Day (N64) Psychonauts (Xbox) Castlevania II (NES) Bionic Commando (NES) Faxanadu (NES) Ufouria (NES) Goonies II (NES) Little Mermaid (NES) Little Mermaid is a weird choice, but it's a good game I can probably play through in an hour or two so why not and it'll make a nice appetizer. I haven't played the first four titles so they'll get priority after LM. The CVII is the fixed version on cart courtesy of Damien and I am already 1/3 of the way through Faxanadu (from a few months ago, got stalled out by other games coming up). We'll see how many games I can get through over the course of 6 uninterrupted days, lol. |

This has also been me. Aside from that and the few NES weekly challenges here I haven't played a video game in any meaningful way this year. |

My ex loved Bully so much... she got the Scholarship Edition or whatever it was called when we started dating. I liked some of the soundtrack (lotsa neat, prominent bass work in it), but it looked like a GTA-lite kinda deal... and I'm not big into GTA to begin with. I tried it and didn't really care for it. And the FF ports that TOSE did for the PS1 (FF4, FF5, FF6, Chrono Trigger) all had horrendous lag on the PS1 itself... sad to hear that even via emulation they're still dodgy. I managed to struggle through all four of them back in the day when I bought them, but I don't know if I could do it now. I also remember the music sounding WORSE on the PS1... like, the instrument samples were different in places and volumes of certain instruments were too loud or soft. Totally fucked up. I'm looking forward to my BACHELOR MODE sometime this summer as well... wife and kids are going to the beach with the in-laws. I can't swim and I burn in like five minutes which is never a fun time for me since the kids and wife are like fish. I just end up sitting around being miserable most of the week... so this year I'll be doing that at home. WOOT |

Been tough to game since I have to chase my boy around most of the day, but I've been sacrificing sleep to have time to myself. I've been playing CSGO on PC because I'm a masochist and like spending my nights hearing 12 year olds tell me that I'm a faggot who should kill myself. Also I just replayed Zelda II, fun as always. I got to stage 8 in Meta Fight (Japanese Blaster Master) not long ago but I blew it on the plutonium boss so I won't play that again for a bit. I have a bunch of Famicom games I reproed that I need to beat, one of them is Princess Tomato. Replaying Fallout 3 because I'm obsessed. This time I'm doing a Charisma/Speech/no-human-kill run of the game. Basically trying to talk my way out of fights and have the "People killed" stay at 0. A lot of fun, but I hate having to let raiders stay alive. |

Unlimited continues help (well not for Cybernoid because there aren't any continues). Gng was done after 3rd night playing, Adventure Island the second day (I didn't turn off the NES while playing Adventure Island). It took me way longer to beat TMNT III: The Manhattan Project. Bayou Billy's probably next. I managed to reach the final bosses once and thought the whip didn't do any damage. Apparently it does but you hit them like only 3000 times instead of just 100. |

Between the kids sports schedule and general life, not much. I thought about a few nes games I've never beaten and the one that jumps out the most is river city ransom which I've been playing for a few minutes at a time but fuck that password |

^Polybius & Rare Replay #1.
Oh I already plan on having him speak on my behalf. I need someone to be emcee considering how little I'll be able to interact on the stream because of Robotron's constant intensity. Claw would be perfect in that role. Also good call on Bionic Commando. Definitely one of those games that's just super relaxing to just annihilate every so often. Still need to try the 'fixed' CV2. I see most of you have an FF on your list, but I just couldn't ever get into them. Maybe I'll give FF6 a shot again? I dunno. I've always preferred Chrono Trigger to the FF franchise. Also cal's mention of River City reminded me that I've beaten it twice recently with two different friends who both fell in love with it. My only beef is the mega slowdown with 2 players. Still very playable though. I think we also need to make a topic called hardest games you've beaten. We always could use more dick stroking on these forums. |
