Pushing 100 hours in Persona 5 and I believe I'm in what is the actual final dungeon. I have like a dozen or so of the Confidants (social links from previous games) done out of 21 or whatever... pretty good. I used no guides and have just been relaxing and playing it however I feel like at the time. The worst issue is the pacing... which was a problem in P3 and P4 as well due to how the game is set up. I had to sit through an hour-long plot dump today because of it, but man was it some juicy stuff.

I'm not sure if I'll replay it right away or move onto something else... like playing Persona 2: Innocent Sin on the PSP... got the remake when it came out, played it for a couple weeks and then got busy with other shit and never got back to it. I dunno. Might pick up the new MLB if we have the cash.

But yeah, P5 rules... well worth the fucking wait.

Rn i am pruning down my NES collection from "OMFG rare collector items / completionism" to "A Player's Collection" i.e. stuff I'd actually physically pull off the shelf and push firmly yet sexily into my toploader without any trace of irony.
SO, i'm playing games i own that I've never played before (that's already a ridiculous concept) to see if they're worth playing (ooh, meta).

Some examples: Little Ninja Brothers, Toxic Crusaders, Mickey's Adventure in Numberland, Batman Return of the Joker, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes...

The verdict so far: Rarity/Market Price has zero correlation with quality.

ETA: Metroid (always), Metroid II (got stuck at the same place i get stuck EVERY TIME and decide I can't be bothered to slog thru the entire game map to find the one metroid i forgot to kill, and thus quit in disgust).

I think two of those games are actually pretty good.

I like another one of them but I know its shitty.

I just sold all my games and bought a Everdrive...

I've always had a soft spot for Little Ninja Bros. I had it growing up, which definitely gives me some bias, but I enjoyed the Action/RPG hybrid stuff. I always liked how the Famicom version is called SUPER CHINESE 2, which is basically if we released a game called KRAUT BUSTER in the US... which actually is a real thing, recently released.

So the older boy got NBA 2K16 shortly after we got our PS4 and I haven't bothered attempting to play it until now (other than playing him in a few games when we got it and having no fucking idea what I was doing), but last night I decided to give it a whirl. Doing the My Career mode or whatever that was written by SPIKE LEE and it's god damn awful.

I made a white guy but I have black parents and a black twin sister (who they make references to me sharing the womb with so no adoption here lol) and the "story" is cringe worthy so far. I'm halfway through my rookie NBA season (after being forced out of college after one year) and I can already tell where the "story" is taking me. It blows. It makes me not want to play.

The shooting controls are pretty fucked up, and it's a shame because otherwise there are tons of options for various stances/approaches on offense and defense that are kinda wacky to figure out (lots of shoulder button use along with rotating the analog sticks every which way), but there is definitely a lot of depth there if you wanna be bothered to learn the ropes. I don't know if I will, though, since it already feels like a worse grind than Dragon Warrior and I only just started playing.

The game has "VC" (virtual currency... what a creative moniker) and it does its damndest to make you pay actual money to buy it. I will never do that in any game... the older boy wanted me to do it for him in for Madden Ultimate Team in this year's Madden... no fucking way. I hate microtransactions more than just about anything.

But yeah, it's cringe-worthy even by Spike Lee standards. I might try the My Team mode (which I hope is like a franchise mode) or something, but bleh. I don't think we'll be getting another one of these titles.

So how is P5 anyway? I never finished the original P3, and barely touched P4. Is it more of the same, or is all the hype coming from people that never played the past two games?

I liked P3, it was just a lot of work to balance social life with running dungeons. That may be the one game I wish I had used a strategy guide or FAQ for.

P5 is in the same vein as P3 and P4 as far as its structure goes... balancing your social life with your demon busting, and what-not. The battle system still emphasizes hitting weaknesses of enemies while not being hit with your own weaknesses. The biggest difference from P3 and P4 combat is that you now talk to demons to earn their trust and get their "mask" (or ability to summon them as a Persona) much like in other SMT games or Persona 1 and 2, rather than the "shuffle time" randomness of the past two games.

I'm going through my first playthrough blind and having a blast. I'll probably do a new game plus and work on maxing things out on the second play. I absolutely loved P3, loved P4 even more, and I can't get enough of this one. But it also seems that series noobs love it as well. The way the narrative is told is pretty slick, and it really throws you for a loop near the end (at least I assume I'm near the end) if you aren't paying very, very close attention to everything. I thought I was and I was still surprised and a bit confused at first about what was going on, but in a good way.

I can't recommend it enough, but be ready to put 100 hours into it. I'm pushing 100 and I still have at least one dungeon to complete. Haven't been able to play the last week due to various things going on and I like to have a block of at least a few hours where I can try to one-shot dungeons.

Okay, so more of the same but better. I honestly liked P3, and I wish I had a chance to really give P4 a fair shot. If I wasn't so preoccupied with job hunting and BOTW, I'd definitely pick it up.

Shit... I thought I'd have more time to play vidyagames after graduation, but getting your foot in the door of a new career is harder than I thought... even though I've more than proven myself.

Started playing Battletoads.
At the moment I can make it to stage 7 which gets insane at the end  :o
And than it's probably getting worse later on

As a fellow NES game beating psychopath, I'm telling you right now that unless you're running on an emu, Battletoads is going to take a few weeks. The game is more about memorizing a long series of stupid traps in order than anything else.

It took me 3 weeks of playing in 2006 to comfortably memorize it enough to beat it. I don't even want to think about how many times I played through the first 10 levels. It's a doozy, but again, you'll see it's one big game of remembering where bs happens over actual skill.

I managed to et to stage 11 today.
So far I'm making progression with every playthough and so far it's indeed all about memorization.

I'm trying to beat Dr. Mario legitimately. Can't clear level 12.

Edit: on normal speed

Once you get past a certain point, it's really just overcoming the initial topped up hump of viruses and the rest is pretty standard. No real strategy except fast pill placement that you hope works out with the rando assortment you get. I beat level 20 fwiw.

Wow, on normal speed? I got to level 13 at least. My problem is once I make a single mistake, my whole style just avalanches. I'm a fucking legit master at super puzzle fighter go figure.

My entire family was addicted to Tetris and Dr. Mario back in the day... I kinda suck at it now, but as a kid I could beat level 20+ on hard with no problem consistently. It doesn't add any extra viruses after 20 so it's just kinda repeating the same thing over and over again. Just clear out what you can up top and make a well; if you end up having to pile garbage on two columns go for it and just get those viruses from underneath later on or horizontally if you can. Most people rarely use horizontal clears from what I've seen... they are a boon.

The wife and I still play Dr. Mario Online Rx on the Wii from time to time... shame the online portion no longer works, as it was a blast playing against someone named GRANDMA with 9999 wins and getting my ass kicked, haha.
