After claw told me to have sex with an Atari Lynx earlier, I actually started searching around again for some info about the console and realized why I loved it so much. I grew up with a Lynx and later a Lynx 2 when our first one went kaput. I still have this console to this very day and it's rather unfortunate that there's only one emulator for it that's 10 years out of date and not exactly perfect. Such a shame because nearly every game I've played for it has been really well done. I guess it's time to get in on the Lynx Multi-Card train. One feature I never got to use, but I hear is also really well done is the 'Comlynx' multiplayer function where you can link up to 4 consoles together. As you can imagine, what are the odds you'll know 4 people with a Lynx let alone 1 let alone them having at least one game compatible with multiplayer while you also having a copy of said game. Yeah... I guess my dream of playing 4 player Zarlor Mercenary shall forever remain a dream. So what are some obscure or lesser loved consoles you guys enjoyed? Lets talk about 'em here! |

I absolutely loved the 3DO when it was released. My local video store that was like two blocks from my house rented systems for $5 a day when I was a kid, and you got Sunday free when you rented on Saturday... so my friends and I would throw $10 together, rent a system and two games for the weekend, and never leave the room. I remember spending a ton of weekends with Road Rash and other random games with the 3DO. I actually owned one until I was about 18 or 19, sold it to Duc Tran aka PAVOL_38... sent him the few games I had including some that Joey Connelly aka Jo from NESFan burnt onto discs for me, and he still has all of this shit, haha. I don't really know what it was about the 3DO that I loved, exactly, but there are a few oddball titles for it that I loved playing as a kid... Twisted: The Game Show, Mad Dog McCree, Gex, Daedalus Encounter, Road Rash, Need For Speed, Guardian War... yeah. I also was eagerly awaiting Duelin' Firemen for the system (and others), though sadly it never came out. Hell, I could make a standalone topic about Duelin' Firemen... basically a huge building is on fire after a plane piloted by Steve Albini crashes into it and you lead a crew of firemen against a rival crew... not to rescue the people, but to make sure they have a good time by partying before they die. Dueln' Firemen trailer.... worth watching all seven minutes, I promise But yeah, loved my 3DO. |

Grew up with an Atari 600XL, so I have fond memories of the 8-bit line, but I don't have the system anymore and I'm not keen to own one again... I will say I thought the Atari Jaguar was cool, even if the only worthwhile game on it was a port of Doom. Just the aesthetic and the marketing attitude behind it was fun. It's a great looking system but the games were just terrible terrible. |

Aliens vs. Predator and Tempest 2000 were also pretty good. Unfortunately most games were worse-than-shovelware tier. |

Even though I had a near-complete collection and sold it, I still think the Atari 7800 is pretty neat. Has some damn good arcade ports of Robotron: 2084, Joust, Xenophobe and Commando. Even the 7800 version of Ikari Warriors isn't bad. Had some pretty good console exclusives and Atari exclusives like Fatal Run and the definitive version of Ballblazer. Then you just have straight up weirdness like Midnight Mutants (starring GRANDPA from the Munsters) and Ninja Golf. |

My first game system was the Atari 5200. Like Damien, I got a full set of it. However, the system really kinda sucks. Garbage controllers and 2600 graphics made doofier. When we did the purge of our collection, I intended on keeping the system and the set. But my set up didn't accommodate hooking the system up, so it was destined for the basement for all time... so I got rid of it. I really love the Vectrex and Virtual Boy. There aren't a lot of systems where the experience to play the game is so drastically different from any others, but these two fit the bill. The Vectrex is the only pre-NES system that we kept. The games are arcade style and fun and just enough. The VB games are the opposite, like what we're used to, but omfg depth of field. A shame we didn't see more out of the system. The Snatcher partial homebrew was pretty damn cool. Highly recommend a flashcart for the VB, a lot of neat homebrew stuff out there (and of course, prices for a lot of stuff are unreasonable). |

I liked the LCD games around time of NES. I'm partial to snk's consoles. I think I've bought like five neo geo pockets and colors and sold em eventually. |

Probably the TurboGrafx-16. Such as shame it got hardly any support in America, that was a pretty decent system. I still prefer it over the Genesis. I almost saved up for one before I heard that the Super Famicom was actually coming to the states. But I bought a TurboDuo years later, so it worked out in the end. |

CD-i. Yes it pretty much sucks and it's probably the nostalgia (an old friend used to own it back in the day, for some reason he was a Philips fanboy). But there's a lot to discover and the discs are usually very cheap here. Hotel Mario is a far better game than peple make it out to be. |

Dreamcast is my favorite console. It still gets a lot of love for how short of a life it had though, so I'll go with sega cd. You have the best version of final fight, snatcher, sonic cd, NBA jam that actually had the scaling sprites, good version of NHL 94, Spider-Man which was more like metroid, eternal champions, and an okay port of monkey island. |

I loved the Sega CD as well as a kid. I remember picking one up for $20 along with a 32X for $15 when they were clearing them out at my local K-Mart. I convinced my parents to get them for me and not give me allowance for over a month. Good times. I played a lot of Dark Wizard and Rise of the Dragon as a kid. |
