Streets of Rage 2 is the pinnacle of the genre, IMO. |

^ I agree with this.
I also agree with this as a whole. These games get too damn repetitive too fast. There are a few that I tolerate and like, but the genre as a whole blows chunks. Great game play for arcades, but absolutely horrible for home consoles. |

They're a lot more fun with 3 or 4 players. Cadillacs & Dinosaurs is my personal favorite. |

The TMNT games are fun because childhood nostalgia but they really suffer from the lack of enemy disparity, ie all foot clan ninjers. 4 player simultaneous is still amazing. |

beat em up games are weird because they have to keep your attention despite not being able to offer anything that interesting mechanically. some still hold up in a sense, like PuLiRuLa. others like Turtles in Time, The Simpsons and many more are really only fun with friends and drinks. that being said the eventual combination of beat em up games and fighting games led to difficult but mechanically rewarding single player action games like God Hand and Devil May Cry 3 which is cool. |

Certain ones bore the hell out of me these days, like any of the TMNT games, X-Men, and The Simpsons. In fact nkw that I think about it I don't like any Konami beat em ups, Aliens is awful too if it counts. Not a fan of the Streets of Rage games either. Weirdly, I really enjoy Final Fight and Knights of the Round. I look at Captain America and the Avengers through rose colored glasses definitely. And I love the NES Double Dragon games but anything after the first in the arcades is terrible. Idk why I like some and not others, they're all mostly repetitive and unoriginal. |

My faves are Streets of Rage 2, Final Fight (Sega CD port, plz), Turtles in Time, and Super Double Dragon (or the Japanese version, Return of Double Dragon). I remember renting tons of these back in the day, and I guess why I rented them so often was we always had a group of friends together on the weekends and they were definitely fun to play with two (or more) players. Nowadays I still run through Final Fight on SNES and Super Double Dragon regularly, and while I haven't played it in quite some time, Streets of Rage 2 is my most played game on the Genesis Collection on PS3. Also fuck you edsel |

I've hated beat em up games ever since I went to TNCA circa 1999 on one of the school computer lab iMacs while we were supposed to be studying and it started blaring Bayou Billy MIDIs at full volume So basically fuck beat 'em ups and Bayou Billy and Sappy too |
