I've actually thought about this... it will certainly bring about change, whether they intend it to or not. I know Miyamoto is still pretty involved with certain projects and seems to be this amazing guru when it comes to design decisions and such, so I'd imagine it'd be rough to move on after he's gone. I wonder if he has a successor or apprentice or something? Hmm.

I'd probably trade Miyamoto for Iwata, though. Iwata was gone too soon. :(

I don't think it'll change much. It's been a long time since Miyamoto has been lead on any game.

I'd be more concerned with Genyo Takeda retiring, which he is. Takeda is the reason why we have the Wii, WiiU and Switch as it is.

Miyamoto out of the picture would probably be more of a social thing. He's a masthead for Nintendo. It'd be like Mark Hamill dying. Sure, the new Star Wars movies would be in trouble without him but since it's not the 80s, it'll ultimately be fine.

I do agree on Iwata. I think he was a great successor to Yamauchi. He had something that Yamauchi and now Kimishima didn't seem to have, which is more outgoing and engaging outlook towards Nintendo's user base.

With or without him, they need new intellectual properties badly. You can't keep selling systems just using the same series they have peddled since the Game Cube.

Well, handheld systems and Metroid didn't die after Gunpei Yokoi died. Nintendo has enough money and valuable IPs that they could always just hire fresh talent or poach from other developers if they really wanted to.

Yeah, it'd be more of a media event than something that would seriously hurt Nintendo. His role in actual game development has kind of grown smaller, especially after Iwata passed away. Hell, he had very little to do with Breath Of The Wild, and that's the one game that not only drew my attention back to core console Zelda games, but prompted me to actually purchase a brand new Nintendo console for the first time since the SNES.

And yes, I'd be happy to trade him to gain Iwata back.
