Not sure Square Enix owns the rights to Actraiser... Wikipedia says it was developed by Quintet and Enix. That may have something to do with it.

Makes sense for FF3 to be on there over CT for the reasons mentioned, but it's weird that Bratwurst mentioned Chrono Cross was a critical flop... it has a 94/100 on Metacritic, and I remember Gamespot giving it a perfect 10 back in the day (I think only a few games ever got a perfect score on Gamespot back in the day). I know it didn't meet Square's sales expectations (even though it made Greatest Hits status), but it was a critical darling for sure.

I think it's a pretty good mix of games, I dunno. But I'll most likely just stick to emulating on my PC. :P

Oh dang. I haven't been paying attention then. All I remembered is Chrono Cross disappointed a lot of people when it first came out, and I am relying on anecdotal bullshit. But still, there hasn't been a followup since then, just re-issues of Trigger, which I think is telling enough.

Chrono Trigger is the greatest SNES game, and greatest game period. This mini is shit without it. Trash.

The reason there was no follow up after Cross was that most of the team from both games left to form Monolith Soft, which made Xenosaga, etc.

Square has said it'd be hard to make a new Chrono game with so few of the people who were originally involved still being with the company, and I agree.

But yeah, most people thought CC was a great GAME... but a horrible sequel. :P

They do. The rights to ActRaiser rolled into SqEn after the merger; they were credited as publisher with the Virtual Console release.

If I can preorder one of these things for retail value, I'll get one, but that's the only way I'm getting one. And even then, I may never even open the thing. Not even for an officially finished StarFox 2. Now if we had gotten Chrono Trigger on this thing, then that'd be a different story, but fuck Earthbound and all its fans.
I'M ON DRUGS!

Nintendo is like the Apple of video game companies/console developers. They clutch onto exclusives and good ideas that were had decades ago and squeeze every penny out of them while keeping them as exclusive and hostile to third parties as possible. See series like Zelda or Pokemon. Then they just dump loads of money into marketing to come up with overmarketed and low effort crap like this and the NES classic to milk more money out of their target demographic. Their target demographic being skinny dudes in their 20's with mushroom haircuts and stupid looking goatees who wear tshirts that let you know that they played common N64 games when they were kids, fat chicks with blue hair and triforce tramp stamps and people who use /r/gaming of reddit who do not fall under the previous 2 categories .

The only cool thing about this SNES classic is the fact that it comes with Starfox 2. That is seriously the only actual reason to buy that. It reminds me of the joke video someone made where this dude was trying to get an NES classic, and he found some post on craigslist, showed up to some old woman's house where she gave him an NES, and he screamed and threw it on the ground. The majority of people who want this don't really care about the games, and probably have not put too much time into playing older games.

To continue with this metaphor, you can also say that Nintendo's strong point (like Apple) is they're constantly pushing to do new things. In first party games, Nintendo stresses to avoid doing the same thing twice. Sometimes this goes horribly wrong, like with Majora's Mask and the CD-i Nintendo games. Other times it's insanely successful, like the fucking D-Pad.

Nintendo had nothing to do with the actual development of the CD-i games.
It was just a part of a business deal.

I would have found a way to include a Quintet game like Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma. Nintendo liked them enough in Europe to also have them in French, German, and Spanish. Soul Blazer could have had a Spanish translation but they got it in French and German around 1994.

But good luck finding an English PAL version of Soul Blazer. Only got a SCN releasee. UKV and HOL were left out in the cold.
The English version is one of the more expansive PAL SNES games.

In that regard though they should have put Lufia II on there.
That was even translated to Dutch which never happened.

Yeah but it was still a left field move to hand their first party IP's over to an American company on such an experimental console like the CD-i.

Yoshi's Island is the second best game on the SNES.

Like the entire game sucks because of that one sound? Pull your heads out. That sound is supposed to be annoying. The whole point is to not have that sound happen as much as possible.

It's okay, enough idiot babies whined about Yoshi's Island's difficulty that Nintendo decided to cater the Yoshi franchise to Literal Infants with games like Yoshi's Story and Wooly World
