Nintendo is like the Apple of video game companies/console developers. They clutch onto exclusives and good ideas that were had decades ago and squeeze every penny out of them while keeping them as exclusive and hostile to third parties as possible.

To continue with this metaphor, you can also say that Nintendo's strong point (like Apple) is they're constantly pushing to do new things. In first party games, Nintendo stresses to avoid doing the same thing twice. Sometimes this goes horribly wrong, like with Majora's Mask and the CD-i Nintendo games. Other times it's insanely successful, like the fucking D-Pad.

Nintendo had nothing to do with the actual development of the CD-i games.
It was just a part of a business deal.

Yeah but it was still a left field move to hand their first party IP's over to an American company on such an experimental console like the CD-i.

Philips is a Dutch company ;)

Yoshi's Island is great. The GBA port did a huge disservice to it by adding all those sound bytes. You had them in the GBA port of A Link to the Past, but in Yoshi's Island it is next to impossible to never get tired of Yoshi's sounds. Like, shut the fuck up already, no need to orgasm at any leap you make.

Welp, I managed to be online when someone tipped me off about the last batch of preorders... and snagged one before they were sold out. I'm thinking about not even opening the thing, but part of me wants to play some of these games on my big screen TV. I'm so conflicted.

Sell it, it's just a glorified emulation box.

If I do, I'll probably wait and see how much they go up to. And how much time it takes for this version of StarFox 2's ROM is ripped and thrown online, because it's not a matter of "if", but "when". I'm not a huge StarFox fan, but I'm curious about the version on here since it's not a recent translation, but rather the translation we would have seen if Nintendo hadn't cancelled the game (a former Nintendo employee that worked on StarFox 2 confirmed that this was the original version that was completed before getting canned.)

Part of me knows this is an emulation box, but... I don't know. I'm going to sleep on it until October and see if the price goes up in the scalper market. If the ROI is worth squatting on it, then it's no contest. If it's easy to hack like the NES Classic was, then I may keep it, because I've been wanting something close to a real SNES (with SNES controllers, not 8-BitDo) on my 55" TV. Too soon for me to call.

For sure, if there's going to be peak resale value, it's probably going to be during the Christmas crunch.

Star Fox 2's release should be very interesting, because I have a feeling there's going to be a 2 player option of some sort. They're including two controllers with the system this time around for some reason and it's not because Nintendo's altruistic. Granted, I know they're charging a little more too.

Bad news is my preorder is cancelled because Wal-Mart can't hire an IT team to save their lives. Good news is that one of the few active collectors I still keep in touch with (the one that tipped me off about the Wal-Mart preorder to begin with) said he'd snag me one for the retail price since my wife did a painting for him. So I'm still getting one, but I don't think I'm going to scalp it unless I REALLY need the money. Because reasons.

I ordered two SNES minis from Belgium.

They don't ship outside their country so I have to drive all the way to Belgium to get these. Well it's an about an hour
