BIG BUTT BABY
|
I went through and entered all of my games I had downstairs into pricecharting dot com and it says my games are worth about $1100. I probably have more in the attic, but yeah. It says shipping is included in the price of the items, so if I were to sell on there how much should I charge to ship a game? I haven't actually shipped a game in like 15 years, so I'm out of the loop. I guess I could just use a bubble mailer and it'd cost a few bucks? I dunno. Sorry for the dumb question, but I'm gonna start liquidating shit here soon and just wanna make sure I know what I'm doing. Also is pricecharting dot com accurate? Thanks in advance. |

In my experience pricecharting's accuracy really depends on where you're selling. I've found that their eBay prices aren't exactly 100% accurate, but are in the ball park which makes sense considering that's where they're getting their info from. I'm just going to pretend you're going to sell on eBay because I've got more experience there than anywhere else and can talk about it a bit. Now a days you can look up previously sold auctions and their prices get a better idea of what to list your games at especially since you can just hit a 'sell one like this' button that does all the work for you. You might be better off trying to sell on forums to avoid eBay's high fees though. 13%+10% of the shipping cost really doesn't make selling with them as profitable as it used to (and still should) be unless you're doing high BINs and are patient. Honestly port or someone else might know of a better place to sell your games that isn't eBay just because their fees these days are absolutely disgusting. Maybe NA would work if you've already got an account there or something, but good luck on selling anything past the N64. One thing I want to recommend are buying imperfect bubble mailers for shipping. The amount of money you'll save by using these envelopes is a pretty nice chunk of change. Most of the the time the imperfection is related to the sealing flap so a bit of packing tape usually does the trick. There are a few that have been unusable, but they happen a lot less often than you'd think. Here's a link to the mailers I've used to ship NES games for the past few years without any issues at all. http://www.ebay.com/itm/250-0-6X10-Imperfe...zYAAOSwxp9W72B2 They also fit DVD sized games nicely which will come in handy for all the CD games you've got there. For most everything you'll likely just use First Class shipping which is going to be around $2.80-$3.50 depending on the item. Based on what I've seen I think you'll be locked in pretty much at $2.80 unless you're selling more than one game at a time. If you go the forum route you can make First Class labels via PayPal at this link which will come in handy considering USPS doesn't allow you to make anything below Priority Mail online. I've never understood why they wont allow that. Oh well. One thing to note is if you ever sell consoles on eBay, FedEx Smartpost is the way to go. I've sold quite a few refurbished NES consoles that have only cost me $8-$15 to ship depending on how many games I include with them. That service is a total lifesaver considering the cost would be nearly triple everywhere else. Anyway good luck and I hope this info comes in handy. |

List items individually as BINs, use this to suss out the maximum value you can extract: http://finalfeecalc.com/ Auctions are a fools game anymore on eBay, there's a rare chance you'll get 25-50% more than an item's going rate, but more often than not you will get much less than you would being patient with BINs. I second Strx10's suggestion of buying used/imperfect mailers because they are cheap and still good. Be wary of sending expensive games out in bubble mailers, they could get smashed, cracked or you'll have the misfortune of sending to a jerk who decides to get offended. Cheap common loose carts are perfectly fine to use bubble mailers of course, but I like to 'doublebag' in any case, ie put the game in a mailer, then put that in another mailer for extra padding. USPS.com will send you free shipping supplies that you can order for zero dollars from their website; your mail carrier will deliver them to you. Stock up on Small Flat Rate Priority Boxes and Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelopes. When you disassemble/unfold the cardboard envelopes, you can invert them and wrap the small boxes, sealing with tape, to send a very sturdy package within first class weight limits. You could also just put the small box in a bubble mailer. It's all technically against the rules but I like to do this because USPS screwed me out of a $700 COD payment years ago so they can suck it. Never ship out Media Mail Rate unless it is legitimately a book. Never use Priority Rate supplies to package a Media Mail package. In the event you are to ship something over 2 pounds, get some Priority Rate A boxes, there are two varieties. Anything you put in them will ship at a 2 pound rate, saving you money. Priority Rate B boxes are bigger but cost you the 4 pound rate. Paypal allows you to print your own shipping labels and ship from home. Be aware that any packages you send this way are not officially scanned into the system until the postal carrier picks them up and drops them off at the mail hub later that day, often it won't register until evening or 1 AM. USPS insurance protection doesn't kick in until the package is first scanned. |

I was going to chime in but strx and Brat really said all there is to be said. I'll hammer home the point though: don't do auctions. Too risky. Although I am sure you'd rather have money sooner than later, fixed price is most stable. You may also want to consider Amazon. Their listings are lol ghetto but you slap a picture with your listing and you're already halfway past your competition. Pricecharting is a good guideline but not a rule. There is another site called gamesvaluenow or something, but it is dripping with NA creamery butter and I prefer to not use it. However, it is a second opinion. Look at both, look at completed auctions and decide where you want to fall on the scale. Lower the price, faster it'll sell but less in your pocket. Cheaper items you may want to let sit (just because your profit margin is slimmer) while more expensive ones you may want to cut down 10-20% because of the burst cash you need. |

Also if you have designer brand jeans (Levis, Calvin Klein etc...) consider selling them on eBay. I recently had a couple of garbage bags full of them and have made a killing getting rid of them. I was shocked at the demand for brand name denim jeans... even extremely worn out pairs that should have been trashed. Just a side note if you were thinking of selling anything else that might be of value. |

Would it be worth it to just list my items for sale on this site? Seems like a lot less hassle than ebay. |
