In 1999, I had my own NES site on homestead. I had no idea the NES Scene existed. I had a shitty contest on my site where I hid a link and wanted people to find it. Only one person found the link. It was Sappy. He told me about TNCA. I followed that to the forums.

sorry but that's actually adorable

I think I actually remember this thing about the hidden link, holy crap

I was definitely a lonely loser of a kid during my early to middle teens, but for some reason I look really fondly on my times on the board and the chat, writing shitty reviews for games and visiting every NES page I had bookmarked looking for updates.

I just realized I'm essentially being nostalgic about...being nostalgic. Yikes.

I totally relate to this. I have always been this guy at heart, more comfortable being alone with my thoughts and interests than most. I actually don't feel like there is anything inherently wrong with it, outside of the fact that sometimes "alone" transmogrifies into "lonely." I pretty much lucked out socially in middle school/HS, since I had popular older siblings and the sort of friends that would just show up at my house.

Yeah it's nostalgia about nostalgia, pretty kooky right? I'll see you at the ClawXco nesforum 10 yr reunion so we can wax nostalgic about our nostalgia nostalgia.

I don't remember exactly when, but I discovered it through NESPlayer's California Raisins article, which I think was around 2002 (if anyone has any idea when that was posted, let me know). I found the IRC channel the same night and dove right in. What a ride.

I started stumbling across NES sites sometimes in early-mid 2001, The first was Toneman's I believe, then from there I found a few more like RoyalRanger and NES Vortex. then I discovered #nes_chat and all you wonderful fuckers
