Doom looked like they scaled the graphic setting a shitton for the Switch and Wolf wasn't even ready to show beyond a teaser image. |

If you're asking me if I was to give an objective review, Breath of the Wild is the first Zelda game in a very long time that decides to do something different and is a step in the right direction for the franchise as a whole, not to mention being one of the first games to make good on the open world concept in a way that makes it super interesting. If you're asking for just my opinion, I don't really go nuts for Breath of the Wild because I don't really enjoy open world games. I think the game is super interesting, but after the initial wandering around kind of wore off I put it down and haven't picked it back up. I think open world games are an inherently flawed concept because no matter how cool it is, it's a big empty space for the most part. Worlds in games are fun to explore when you have a free, wide range of movement and things to discover. I didn't really see that in Breath of the Wild. There's lots of riding a horse around and doing shrine puzzles or combat that, while good, would be lackluster if it wasn't in Zelda which has had really boring combat for a long time now. The stamina gauge in the game is also a huge detriment. I understand it has to be there but it makes everything take way longer than it should and can drag the pace of the game to a crawl. I understand that it's realistic that you can't climb a mountain easily if it has rained, but the realism is at the cost of general enjoyment of the game so what the fuck. There's no real reason for it to be there except to emulate a sense of realism that feels entirely unneeded. This isn't Deadly Premonition where having to use an actual map makes sense. I don't dislike the game and it's definitely my favorite 3D Zelda game but it isn't even in my top 20 games of all time. I'm also just not really a Zelda fan. I think there's a ton of good games in the series and I have a great time with the handheld Zelda's like the Oracle series, Link's Awakening and the Minish Cap but the console ones never stuck with me besides A Link to the Past. |
