Can we be done with video games?
For me the answer is a resounding "yes"

To answer your question, it's starting to look that way. If you look at the price charting websites, the average price across most systems has leveled off, and has been leveled off for over a year. Considering the insane growth we've seen, any sort of leveling off is a bad sign for it to continue, which is really a good sign for us.

If you were planning on selling anything, do it now. The party seems to be over.

Considering the inevitable panic and sell-off that will drive prices into the ground, I'm expecting a slight uptick as people also go nuts and buy everything because it's suddenly cheap and plentiful. Until they realize that supply has swung right back to the demand of the early aughts and is punching it in the face.

If this indeed is true and the future of collecting is in the air, I wonder what it means for the guys making boatloads of cash based off media. You know, streamers, reviewers, "personalities..." all those types.

Noted. I just put up my copy of Power Blade II. First NES game I've ever sold...

Also in regards to Calgone's original post. My AVS + Everdrive combo as well as my Retropie have simply murdered my urge to collect any more. The thought of selling my entire collection has crossed my mind - something that I would have considered completely unreasonable a year ago.

Tangentially related to the original topic - is Nintendo going to keep going back to this well with Game Boy and N64 classic minis?

There is a trademark filed for the Gameboy -and- N64 Classic;

http://www.businessinsider.com/nintendo-64...rademark-2017-7

Provided Nintendo doesn't fuck it up by making the stupid thing smaller than it originally was, that Gameboy Classic could be amazing. I might even want one if it can be hacked and loaded with a custom lineup.

Questionable whether Nintendo could actually get its act together for the N64 Classic Mini when their SNES emulation is already so terrible

It's when it comes to the SuperFX chip games. Yoshi's Island has stuttering, and Star Fox and Star Fox 2 both run under-speed. And since Star Fox 2 is quite a bit more demanding, the effect is all the more pronounced.

Here's a comparison with SF1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YJLGwwITv8

People have already dumped the SF2 rom and started putting it back onto repro carts. On the original hardware it runs at its full intended speed again, so that's a plus.
